What Are Hydraulic Power Packs and Its Components?


A hydraulic power pack is a self-contained system that is used to generate large amounts of power, which is used to drive hydraulic machinery. These packs use a motor, a reservoir and a hydraulic pump to transmit power from one point to another. These units can be powered by an electric motor or a gasoline one. If it is an electric powered hydraulic pack it can either be an AC power pack or a DC power pack. A gasoline based motor runs on petrol or diesel. 

How do hydraulic power packs work?

A hydraulic system creates rotary, linear motion or force by transferring enclosed fluid from once source to another. A hydraulic power pack provides the energy needed to transfer the liquid. 

Hydraulic power packs are fitted with temperature control devices and use multi-stage pressurization networks to move fluid. Most standard pumps use single-stage pressurization networks. 

Factors like pressure limits, power capacity and reservoir volume determine the performance of a hydraulic power pack. Motor 

This is the part of the power pack that is responsible for converting electrical energy into mechanical energy. These power packs are classified according to the power supply of the motor, which can either be an AC or a DC motor. 


 
Hydraulic Pump 

The hydraulic pump is considered the heart of the power pack as it is the responsibility of the pump to convert mechanical energy into hydraulic power. There are three main types of hydraulic pumps: gear pumps, vane pumps and piston pumps.  

Flow control valve 

The main purpose of this component is to control the movement speed by switching flow area and control flow.

Coolers and heaters

To regulate the temperature inside a power pack, an air cooler can be installed near or behind the filters. This is done so that the power packs are always within operational parameters. Similarly, a heating system, like an oil-based heater, can be installed to increase the temperature wherever necessary.

Filters

A filter is a self-contained bypass unit, which has its own motor, pump, and filtering apparatus. The filter is used to fill or empty the tank by activating a multi-directional valve. Filters can often be replaced while the power unit is functioning as they are self-contained units.
