What Are Hydraulic Telescopic Cylinders and Its Uses?

To be able to understand what hydraulic
telescopic cylinders are, we fist have a good understanding of what are hydraulic cylinder

A hydraulic cylinder is an important part of a hydraulic system that converts the energy of the hydraulic fluid into a linear force either by pushing or pulling.

Types of hydraulic cylinders

There are essentially four types of hydraulic cylinders: single acting cylinder, double acting cylinder, telescopic cylinder and tandem cylinder. In this article we will be discussing the advantages and applications of a telescopic cylinder.

The telescopic cylinder, also known as a multistage cylinder, is a type of linear actuator that consists of different sleeves or stages. An actuator is the part of the machine that enables movement. The sleeves are built inside one another, normally for or five, and decrease in diameter. These sleeves or cylinders enable you to increase the output of speed and force when used in industrial projects.

Advantages of telescopic cylinder

Can be a single acting or double acting combination

One of the biggest advantages of using a telescopic cylinder is that allows you to use it in single acting, double acting or single/double acting combinations.

To be able to understand the advantages of a telescopic cylinder we must first understand what a single acting, double acting and a single/double acting combinations.

>Double acting cylinder

A double acting cylinder has a very complex design. It has two different ports. The oil enters from one port and pushes the piston down. When the piston is directed by the control to retract, the oil is pushed into the second port, which in turn pushes the piston up. In other words, the cylinders retract and extend in both directions.

>Single acting cylinder

A single acting cylinder, by comparison, is a fairly simple design. As the name suggests, it moves only in one direction. A single acting cylinder only has one port that is used for moving the piston down by pressure from the pump. However, it retracts with the help of an internal spring.

Space saving and cost effective

Another big advantage of a telescopic cylinder is that it is very easy to use and is extremely cost efficient. It also does not require a lot of space and can meet certain angle requirements. Log on to dhf.in for the best-in-class telescopic cylinders.

Application of telescopic cylinders

DUMP TRUCK

Telescopic cylinders are most commonly used in dump trucks. Dump trucks usually use a type of telescopic cylinder called a tipping cylinder. This can either be a front-end tipping cylinder or an underbody cylinder.

CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT

They are also very commonly used in construction equipment like cranes or digging vehicles. A crane used for construction needs to move heavy loads horizontally. It also helps a digging vehicle to reach better depth.

OIL RIGS

Oil rigs use both telescopic and single-rod hydraulic cylinders. They do this by forming a hybrid of both types of cylinders. Offshore oil rigs are situated in small spaces and, as mentioned above, telescopic cylinders help in saving space. They also give better output than single-rod cylinders.
