Application and Uses of Hydraulic Cylinder

A hydraulic cylinder is actually a mechanical actuator which helps in giving a force in one direction through a unidirectional stroke. Its helps in moving of the fluid in a confined space under pressure. Or in other words we can say that hydraulic cylinder is a machine used to transform the energy already stored in the hydraulic fluid into a force which eventually helps in moving of the cylinders in a linear direction. Hydraulic cylinders receive their energy from a fluid mainly from oil.

Hydraulic cylinders have many applications. They are being used for:
• Civil engineering work
• Manufacturing machinery
• Constructing equipment
• Engineering vehicles
• Automobile and allied industries

What hydraulic cylinder providers and manufacturers do ?
• Manufacture hydraulic cylinders
• Repair hydraulic cylinders
• Repair used hydraulic cylinders
• Supply and maintain hydraulic cylinders
• Design different types of hydraulic cylinders

According to their function,Hydraulic cylinders are further classified into Single Acting Cylinders and Double Acting Cylinders.

Single Acting Cylinders: In these cylinders, the fluid mainly oil is pressurized only from one particular side of the cylinder during both the process i.e. expansion as well as retraction. When pressure of the fluid is cut off, then a spring or some external load is used in order to get back the cylinder top to its original position.

Double Acting Cylinders: In these cylinders, the fluid is pressurized from both the directions. These cylinders are more widely used hydraulic cylinders than single acting cylinders.

Hydraulic cylinders are ideal for any industry whose work relies on linear motion. It has advanced applications also like in flight simulators or fatigue testing. These are just few applications and uses of hydraulic cylinders as they have number of applications and uses which all can not be discussed here.
